Every Thursday, at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
{pretty}
Here is Mary Rose wearing the new scarf I made her for Christmas, inspired by Leila's wonderful Liberty print scarf she made. I followed her method of cutting one piece wider than the other, and used two different prints of Anna Maria Horner's Little Folks voile. (Added bonus -as this collection is a few years old you can find it at a discounted price!) This fabric is very soft and fine and works well for a pretty scarf.
As I didn't have any fabulous trim like Leila did, I added a crocheted edging of perle cotton. I actually made three of these for my eldest daughters, each one with different fabrics and trim, but I only have a picture of Mary Rose's. I think they turned out very pretty - thank you Leila!
{happy}
Happy is Josiah playing his button accordion in the sunshine, enjoying a few days' break before the spring semester begins. So fun to hear his music in the middle of a sunny day. When not making music he's been sewing like a fiend - he goes so fast it sounds like a train up there.
{pretty - funny - happy}
How to make a birder girl happy who has long been pining for a brush pile? Assemble a pile of Christmas trees on your deck! (You rural folks don't laugh at us - we inhabitants of suburbia have to be creative.) This rather unique and very effective arrangement has been dubbed the 'bird playground'.
In the lovely sunshine
or in the snow
the pretty birds are very happy to have a sheltered place in which to feed. They love to scoot around in and out of the branches, chasing each other and grabbing a bite to eat. A Cooper's hawk even landed on the deck railing the other day thinking it was a restaurant but it left empty handed (footed?). The funny is also the method of procuring said Christmas trees - nabbing them curbside from the neighbors and carrying them home on scooters, like so-
That girl has quite a devoted brother to assist in her tree snatching escapades. :-)
The 'playground' has attracted cardinals, juncos, white throated and song sparrows, nuthatches, chickadees, titmice, and a pair of Carolina wrens. I accidentally spilled the mealworms all over when the top fell off the tub, but the wrens are quite fond of the mess I made.
Here's one more shot for our wrennie loving friend Mary - it looks like it's posing:

Eliza, put the dust mop down before you break someth...
Well, that was fast! It was nice that she only broke two of the grouping. :-)
