Hot off the press or should I say fresh from the artist's pen, here is a visual pathway for marking our journey during Lent. Lydia kindly made a new calendar for us this year. As in other years, we mount it simply on a piece of purple construction paper. The young ones color one space each day as we make our way through Lent,
moving ever closer to Holy Week and finally the glory of Easter. Lydia did a lovely job, surrounding the page with a border of thorns, with lilies at Easter Sunday when we will celebrate the triumph of the Resurrection. I wasn't going to use one of these this year, but Eliza is already asking to cover the statues (as we do in Passiontide) and make kalacs and birds' nests (as we do for Easter), so I thought a little visual of the forty days would be helpful. ;-)
Be sure to select 'fit to printable area' when you go to print it. (it prints well in black and white - the purple you see is the paper it is mounted on)
A blessed Ash Wednesday to you all.

My compliments to the artist! I think my girls will enjoy putting these in the front of their Lenten journals. Thank you for sharing it!

Lydia, thankyou so much for allowing me to print this LOVELY calendar for lent. When I first opened the page my first thought was "oh I wish I could print this off eh" ;-)
Father Benedict Groeschel CFR, whom I feel is my spiritual father & director, lives in NYC. He comments in his books and on his TV program thru EWTN that on Ash wednesday at St Patricks in NYC, there are many many non Catholics attending. As one gentleman of the Jewish faith once commented to him many years ago "its free, and it can't hurt"!

I have never commented before, but I want to thank you and your daughter so much for this. It is beautiful. I have asked my husband to print it off at his work, and we will follow it this Lent. Thank you,

Oh how beautiful! And perfect because Bella has just become obsessed with marking days off her calendar. I'm printing off three copies because I know Ben and Bella and Sophie will each want their own. Many thanks to Lydia for sharing her lovely art with us.

Did you use a series of books to teach your children drawing or did they attend a special class? My 10 yr old loves to draw (especially birds)& I enrolled her in a 6 week program w/ our local arts alliance but I want to help her develop her skills more.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.:)
