Did you talk like a pirate all day?
and Red Handed Jack was here as well.
We listened to some of our favorite shanties: Sea Songs & Shanties: Traditional Music from the Last Days of Sail and Sea Shanties: Rousing Songs from the Age of Sail with plenty of Gilbert and Sullivan thrown in as well.
We spoke fondly of Peter Pan, Treasure Island, the Dread Pirate Roberts and the fierce but friendly (and cutest pirate ever) Dread Pirate Dominic. Being very fond of The Pirates of Penzance, Mabel was here for a visit as well.
All in honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day!

We missed out on Talk Like a Pirate Day! I guess it was sort of overlooked, as we have pirates running around here most days, on and off...
I love the boys' shirts...boughten, or homemade?

Oh, wonderful! Smithsonian Folkways has some wonderful recordings. We're partial to http://www.folkways.si.edu/albumdetails.aspx?itemid=2993 Classic Maritime Music from Smithsonian Folkways.

Yes, Nadja, that's what we said - that you always have pirates in your house! Josiah did make his blue pirate shirt - out of a thrifted sheet and with his own pattern, of course. He went off dressed like that and wandered on campus playing shanties on the accordion. :-)
And thanks, Jennifer, I always appreciate your musical recommendations!

The kids must have had a fantastic time! The costumes are nifty too. There's gotta be an imagination running all through the afternoon.
