Several readers have asked me to resume my Alphabet Path posts, so here we have a bit of N and O weeks.
N Week was Nice!
Sorting objects by beginning letter sounds.
Around here, N is for Narnia, Naturally.
Eliza enjoying one of her favorite books - The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Official Illustrated Movie Companion (check out that bargain price!). We've been listening to the radio theater version of Narnia that Mary Rose got for Christmas.
The girls also enjoyed painting these sketches Lydia drew for them - she uses a Sharpie so the watercolors don't make the ink run.
N is also for Nest! A favorite simple book about nests and eggs is A Nest Full of Eggs (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science, Stage 1).
Tying in with Nests is one of the girls' current favorite picture books, N is for No Roses for Harry! The girls made collage pictures featuring the Nests in No Roses for Harry.
I cut out the tree with branches from brown construction paper and they glued it on to a sheet of blue. Next they painted a free form Nest on the branch.
Then they cut lots of small strips of brown paper (Notorious fine motor scissors practice) and glued them on to form the nest.
Next they added pieces of green yarn, and then topped off the Nest with roses cut from colored paper.
The birds aren't attached, so the girls can pretend to fly them around and have them grab a piece of yarn in their beaks to take back to the Nests. They came out pretty Nifty!
O is for Octopus! We gave Octopus' Den (Smithsonian Oceanic Collection) and the girls painted very large Octopi:
And then we moved on to Owls. We've read lots of Owl books such as The Barn Owls and Screech Owl at Midnight Hollow (Smithsonian's Backyard). We've watched a little Owl video. We are also greatly enjoying the beloved classic Owl Moon, and we read it Over and Over again.
